Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has inaugurated twenty-one Caretaker Chairmen for various local government areas in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony, a significant step towards reinforcing local governance, occurred on Monday in Makurdi, the state capital.

Addressing the newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen, Governor Alia emphasized that their appointments exemplified the government’s resolve to infuse renewed vitality into the local government system.

He underscored that their selection was based on their substantial contributions to the state’s and the nation’s development.

Highlighting the pivotal role of local government in governance, Governor Alia stressed its significance as one of the three tiers of government responsible for delivering essential social services to the populace.

“In this regard, I urge you to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the efficient operation of your councils. My administration remains committed to poverty reduction through various empowerment schemes,” Governor Alia affirmed.

Encouraging integrity, transparency, and fairness in their leadership roles, Governor Alia urged the newly appointed chairmen and Interim Council members to uphold these values throughout their tenure.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Philip Achua, the Caretaker Chairman of Konshisha Local Government, pledged their unwavering support to the Governor’s agenda.

Achua emphasized the importance of teamwork involving the masses to achieve substantial progress in the grassroots and assured that the impacts of the local government administration would be palpable among the people.
