Governor Oborevwori appoints 20 SAs

The Delta House of Assembly approved Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s request to appoint 20 Special Advisers (SAs) to assist in guiding the state’s administration on Tuesday.
The governor’s proposal was approved following a resolution filed by the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi, during plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Mr Dennis Guwor.

The governor had requested the Assembly’s consent for the appointment of the SAs in a letter, which was read during the Assembly’s plenary session.

Oborevwori stated that the request was in accordance with Section 196, Subsection 1-3 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, as amended.

The governor, who expressed gratitude to the House for expediting approval of the proposal, stated that the Special Advisers would help drive the administration’s development plan.

In addition, the Assembly on Tuesday examined and confirmed the nominations for appointment to the Delta State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, which the governor forwarded to it last week.

The motions for screening and confirmation were moved by the majority leader and seconded by Me Isaac Anwuzia, the member representing Aniocha South constituency.

As Chairman, Justice Celestina Ogisi (Rtd), Prof. Louis Ojogwu, Mr Alexander Neyin, Dr Iris Ibi, Mr Augustine Eseagwu, Mr Festus Onyaeju, and Mrs Uju Rosaline Monye are among the nominees.

The speaker congratulated members on the successful screening and asked nominees to do their best to ensure the prompt delivery of justice in the state.

Oborevwori stated that the appointment was made due to the need to reconstitute the Advisory Council due to members’ tenures expiring.

He said that the appointment was made in accordance with Section 3, subsections 1 and 2 of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy Law 2016.

During Tuesday plenary, the speaker expressed condolences to the family of Dr Samuel Okpokpor, the former Head of Service of the State, who died over the weekend.

The speaker prayed to God to give the family the strength to suffer the loss and to provide the soul of late former Head of Service, Dr Okpokpor, eternal rest.
