INEC Appoints Nine SANs To Defend Election

 

Nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SAN have been appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to defend the results of the February 25 presidential elections.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria gathered that the team will be led by the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN).

Stephen Adehi (SAN), Oluwakemi Pinheiro (SAN), Miannaya Essien (SAN), and Abdullahi Aliyu are the other members of the team (SAN).

 

A member of the legal team revealed that in addition to Garba Hassan, Musa Attah, and Patricia Obi, four SANs who work for INEC’s legal department are also members of the team.

INEC allocated over N3 billion to defend the results of the presidential and national assembly elections held on February 25 and the governorship and state assembly elections held on March 18.

 

Several unsuccessful candidates have filed petitions with the presidential and state election petition tribunals to contest the election results.

Over 100 election petitions have been filed across the nation by aggrieved candidates and their parties.

 

Atiku Abubakar, candidate for president of the Peoples Democratic Party; Peter Obi, candidate for president of the Labour Party; Solomon Okangbuan, candidate for president of the Action Alliance; and Chichi Ojei, candidate for president of the Allied Peoples Movement, have all filed petitions for the nullification of the presidential election results.

Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, was declared the winner of the February 25 presidential election by the commission on March 1, 2023.
