Joint Task Force Engages Terrorists in Fierce Firefight, Notorious Terrorist Surrenders

In a significant development in the ongoing battle against insurgency, troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have engaged suspected Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in a firefight near Kuka in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Relations, revealed the details in an official statement on August 10, 2023.

According to the statement, the troops were strategically positioned and lay in wait for the marauding terrorists before launching a fierce firefight.

As a result of the engagement, two Boko Haram terrorists were neutralized, forcing the remaining attackers to flee in disarray.

The operation yielded significant gains for the troops. A cache of weaponry and materials was recovered, including 63 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) shell, five Pento injections, and the sum of Nineteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixty Naira.

The successful operation underlines the troops’ commitment to curbing the menace of terrorism in the region.

In a separate incident that underscores the ongoing success of the operations, a notorious terrorist surrendered to troops of the 222 Battalion stationed at Geizuwa in the Konduga Local Government Area.

The surrender resulted from the aggressive approach adopted by the troops against Boko Haram enclaves. Among the items recovered from the surrendering terrorist were one AK47 rifle, one magazine, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

The surrendered terrorist is currently undergoing profiling to determine the extent of their involvement and to facilitate further necessary actions.

These recent developments have been met with appreciation from the highest ranks of the military. Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has applauded the troops for their high level of alertness and unwavering fighting spirit.
