Kwankwaso making moves to join APC, Buhari’s ally reveals

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2023, is reportedly seeking to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

AbdulMajid Dan Bilki Kwamanda, a close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, reportedly made the revelation while addressing journalists at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) headquarters in Kano.

Kwamanda voiced his opposition to Kwankwaso’s alleged action, citing Kwankwaso’s alleged unreliability and penchant for personal gain. He cautioned President-elect Bola Tinubu to reject Kwankwaso’s application to join the APC, stating that Kwankwaso’s entry into the party would cause severe division.

In response to rumours of secret meetings between Kwankwaso and Tinubu, Kwamanda warned that bringing Kwankwaso into the APC would be a betrayal of the North and not in Tinubu’s long-term political interests.

Kwamanda argued further that Kwankwaso’s entry into the APC would hurt Senator Kashim Shettima’s chances of becoming vice president and that the North-West deserved the Senate Presidency in the 10th National Assembly. He also dismissed South-South criticism, stating that it did not contribute to the formation of the new administration.

“They did not work for us because they opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket. During Jonathan, when the president, Senate president, and his deputy were all Christians, they did not consider it. Therefore, it is now time for the North, even in the North, for Barau Jibrin to become Senate president. This is our preference and what we are requesting,” he said.

Kwankwaso finished fourth in the recent presidential election, behind Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
