In a recent exchange on a live-streamed TV program, George Galloway, an award-winning presenter, former British parliament member, and the host of the Mother of all Talk Shows (MOATS), made it clear that his criticism of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, often referred to as BAT, stems from his perception of Tinubu’s actions rather than his ethnicity or religious beliefs. Galloway firmly expressed his stance during a discussion with a caller identified as Simi, who had raised certain claims regarding Nigeria’s religious demographics and the Yoruba community’s alleged vulnerability.

Simi, the caller, had asserted that Nigeria is primarily Muslim and that they voted for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also claimed that Tinubu is being criticized in the international community because he is a Yoruba man. Simi also stated that the Yoruba ethnic group was facing threats and warned that Galloway should be careful.

However, Galloway swiftly addressed these claims.

I am not aware that Bola Tinubu is a Muslim or from the Yoruba people. That is the only good thing I have heard about him. My contempt for Tinubu is because he’s a crook, not because he’s Yoruba or Muslim.”

“I’m against him because he is a thief. I’m against him because he is a bag man for the bigger thieves.”

Ejes Gist Newspaper has also debunked some of Simi’s claims.

The assertion that Nigeria is predominantly Muslim lacks statistical evidence to support such a claim. Nigeria is a diverse nation with a significant population of both Muslims and Christians, among other religious affiliations. The country’s religious composition is multifaceted.

Simi’s assertion that the Yoruba people are under threat is also false. Other tribes were under threats in Lagos during and after the 2023 election.
