Tragedy Strikes as Nigeria Senate Pays Tribute to Helicopter Crash Victims
In a solemn session on Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate paid its respects with a minute of silence for the tragic loss of Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC, and five others who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States last Friday.
Wigwe, his wife, and their child were among the victims, alongside the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, who also perished in the California crash near the Nevada border. The accident claimed the lives of two additional crew members.

Senator Allwell Onyeso, representing Rivers East Senatorial District, introduced a motion urging the Federal Government to collaborate with the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the United States’ National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate and unveil the cause of the tragic incident.
The Nigeria Senate seeks to ensure transparency and provide the Nigerian public with access to the investigation results.
As witness accounts surface, indicating possible rain during the crash, NTSB member Michael Graham noted, “Witness reports to the weather condition at the time of the accident suggest rain and a wintry mix,” during a briefing on Sunday.
Responding to the circumstances, the NSIB has declared its commitment to working closely with the NTSB to intensify the inquiry into the helicopter disaster.
