1) Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, predicts that 86 senators will support his bid for the presidency of the tenth senate by the end of June. Akpabio, who currently has the support of the ruling All Progressives Congress for the seat, stated this on Sunday when he led a group of lawmakers on a courtesy visit to Governor Babajdie Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

2) State governments criticised the Federal Government’s plan to delegate the feeding and care of inmates in correctional facilities to the states on Sunday. The governments of Ogun, Gombe, Ondo, Delta, Borno, Osun, and Rivers argued that the Federal Government should reevaluate the current revenue allocation formula so that they are in a better financial position to assume the proposed responsibility.


3) Major General Umaru Mohammed, the former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited, has been accused of being persecuted, but the Nigerian Army has denied these allegations. According to a statement released on Sunday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, the General is being prosecuted for crimes bordering forgery and misappropriation of funds.

 

4) On Sunday morning, the popular Agbeni Market in the Ibadan North West Local Government Area of Oyo State caught fire. It was discovered that millions of naira worth of goods were destroyed by the fire. Yemi Akinyemi, general manager of the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident to our reporter.

5) Four employees of ZEFA Microfinance Bank have been arrested after one of them allegedly pushed the debtor’s 50-year-old wife, Vivian Omo, resulting in her death. According to reports, the suspects, whose bank is located in the Abule Ijoko Lemode neighbourhood of Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun State, went to the residence of their debtor and began packing his belongings.

 

6) Benjamin Kalu, one of the preferred candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress for the position of Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives, has denied being handpicked by Bola Tinubu’s camp. Even as Kalu, chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, pledged to accept defeat and return to the floor of the chamber if he loses the election, he made this statement.

 

7) Bola Tinubu will not govern the country from abroad, according to Bayo Onanuga, his spokesman. During an appearance on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, the former managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) stated that Tinubu will never rule from London like President Muhammadu Buhari.
