Nollywood Actor Amaechi Muonagor Reportedly Dead

Renowned Nigerian actor Amaechi Muonagor has reportedly passed away, as confirmed by popular social media influencer and chairman of Delta State Sports Association, Morris Monye.

Monye announced the actor’s demise on Sunday via his official social media handle, expressing deep sadness at Muonagor’s passing. He hailed Muonagor’s talent and masterful performances on screen, noting his significant presence in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India,” Monye wrote, highlighting the challenges of accessing adequate healthcare in the country.

 

Monye wrote, “Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing.

Muonagor, a native of Idemili, in Anambra, was born Aug. 20, 1962

Amaechi Muonagor is he dead? 

As of now, the Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has not provided an official response to inquiries regarding Muonagor’s death.

The news of Muonagor’s passing comes shortly after the actor, aged 61, appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance for a kidney transplant in a distressing video posted online. His struggle with kidney disease was confirmed by his relative, Tony ‘Oneweek’ Muonagor, on November 27, 2023.

Throughout his illustrious career, Muonagor appeared in numerous films, including the popular comedy “Aki and Paw Paw,” where he portrayed the father of two mischievous teenagers.

He was an actor and producer. In 2016, he was nominated for AMVCA 2017 Best Actor in a comedy.

 

In 1989, after his youth service, Muonagor started working for the News Agency of Nigeria. He left his job a few years later for an acting role in his first movie as Akunatakasi in Taboo 1, a Nigerian movie.

Muonagor’s death follows that of another Nollywood icon, Mr. Ibu (John Okafor), who passed away on March 2, 2024.
