The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has voiced apprehensions over reported plans by the Nigerian military to use force to remove the military junta in the Niger Republic from power.
The forum has expressed concerns that the Northern region of Nigeria will bear the brunt of any potential war resulting from such actions.
Tensions have been on the rise following the expiration of the ultimatum issued by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the military junta in the Niger Republic. The ultimatum demanded the restoration of democratically elected President Mohamed Basoum, who was ousted weeks ago.

AYCF President, Yerima Shettima, during a recent interview with Channels Television, warned against the use of military force by ECOWAS to oust the Nigerien military junta.
He specifically cautioned President Bola Tinubu, who leads the regional body, and the African Union against resorting to military intervention.
Shettima appealed to the coup leaders to initiate a transitional arrangement immediately, paving the way for the country’s return to democratic governance within one year.
He emphasized that military rule is no longer acceptable in Africa and urged the coup plotters to prioritize a peaceful restoration of democratic institutions.
