Traditional Ruler and Wife Abducted in Nasarawa State; Police Launch Rescue Operation
In a shocking incident that has sent waves of concern through the region, gunmen abducted the Prominent Monarch of Gurku community, HRH Jibrin Mamman Waziri, along with his wife, Hajiya Sa’adatu Waziri, in the Karu area of Nasarawa State. The abduction occurred within the confines of the palace, situated amidst the mountains in the area, as darkness enveloped the community.
The First-Class Royal father and his wife were forcefully taken to an undisclosed location by the gunmen following their abduction. A resident of the community, who wished to remain anonymous, shared that the terrifying event unfolded around 10 pm when many were already asleep. The resident expressed concern over the lack of immediate intervention by security agencies, attributing the gunmen’s success to this delay.
Appeals for prompt action have echoed through the community, urging the police and other security agencies to swiftly intervene in the situation to ensure the safe release of the abducted Chief and his wife.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa Police, confirmed the incident in a conversation with our correspondent in Lafia. He revealed that efforts were underway to rescue the Chief and his wife without harm.
Nansel stated, “I wish to confirm that around 10 pm of August 6, 2023, a distress call was received by the Nasarawa State Police command, reporting that the palace of the Chief of Gurku town, located in a mountainous area 10 kilometers away from Mararaba main town, was invaded by men suspected to be kidnappers.”

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, promptly dispatched a team of police operatives and vigilante groups to the scene. Despite their swift response, the Chief and his wife had already been taken away by the abductors. The security personnel scoured the surrounding bushes and mountains, but their efforts yielded no positive results.
In light of the situation, the Commissioner of Police escalated the response, deploying additional tactical teams, including the anti-kidnapping unit and officers from the Karu area command, to intensify the search and rescue efforts.
The abductions have deeply unsettled the community and underscored the pressing need for effective security measures to safeguard the lives and well-being of the residents. As the rescue operation continues, hopes are high for the safe return of HRH Jibrin Mamman Waziri and his wife, Hajiya Sa’adatu Waziri, to their community.
