Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Mark In Benue
A priest from the Otukpo Diocese in Benue state named Rev. Father Mark Ojotu was kidnapped by armed men who are thought to be kidnappers.
According to reports, Ojotu serves as the chaplain of St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoga, in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, which is part of the Otukpo diocese.

On Thursday at about 5 o’clock, the victim was kidnapped along the Okpoga-Ojapo road.
The diocese received confirmation of the kidnapping in the form of a letter from the diocesan secretariat addressed to all priests, religious, and lay believers and signed by the Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Joseph Itodo.
We write to inform you of the abduction of Rev. Fr. Mark Ojotu, one of our priests, the letter stated.
He serves as the hospital’s chaplain in Okpoga. On December 22, 2022, around 5:00 p.m., a tragic incident happened on Okpoga-Ojapo Road in the Okpokwu LGA of Benue State.

“As we step up our efforts to secure his release, the Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has urged all Christ’s followers in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and beyond to fervently pray for his speedy and safe release.
“We pray for the quick and safe release of our brother and all those held captive in kidnappers’ dens across the nation through the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The incident was confirmed by the State Command Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, who also said that police were looking for the kidnappers.
Anene sent a brief message to our correspondent that read, “Incident confirmed and the command is on the trail of the priest and hoodlums involved.”
