The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) spokesperson, Benson Upah, had earlier remarked that Obi was at liberty to exit the LP, asserting that the congress would not impede his decision to depart.

Upah stated, “The right of choice is available to Mr. Obi. If he chooses to leave the party, that is his preference. We can’t sit in judgment over him on that. But if he chooses to remain, of course, Peter Obi is an asset any day. I rest my case on that.”

In response, Obi clarified, “No, there is no such thing. I’m for peace, I like peace. I believe we are one people. Our concentration should be on peace, and I believe that we will resolve all situations.”

Regarding potential collaboration with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Obi emphasized his focus on the present welfare of Nigeria rather than future political endeavors. He underscored his commitment to improving the living standards of Nigerians and fostering societal advancement.

Expressing dismay over the recent hike in electricity tariffs for Band A consumers by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Obi urged stakeholders to devise strategic solutions to alleviate the burden on low-income communities.

“We should all think it through, see how we can provide remedy. How we can deal with it, especially as it concerns the poor areas? Everywhere in the world, those living in Band A areas pay more while those in rural areas are subsidized. That is how it works,” he explained.

The statement from Obi comes amidst heightened political tensions and speculations, as stakeholders anticipate significant shifts in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
