The Nigeria Police Force, Rivers State Headquarters was thrown into mourning over a heartbreaking incident in Nyogor-Lueku, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Inspector Nelson Abuante has taken his own life after mistakenly shooting dead his colleague, Inspector Monday Gbaramana.
The unfortunate event unfolded during an attempt to apprehend a suspect, Mr. Akere Akpobari, following allegations made against him by his mother.
The two officers, both assigned to the Taabaa Division, confronted Akere at Nyogor-Lueku, where the situation escalated into a physical altercation.
Amid the struggle, Inspector Abuante unintentionally discharged his firearm, critically injuring Inspector Gbaramana. Faced with the severity of the situation, Abuante and Akere’s mother rushed the wounded officer to the hospital.

Tragically, their journey to seek medical attention was hindered when their vehicle ran out of fuel. Regrettably, Inspector Gbaramana succumbed to his injuries during this unforeseen delay.
The sorrowful turn of events took an even darker twist when Inspector Abuante, upon discovering the loss of his colleague, chose to end his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot.
The bodies of both officers have been placed in the mortuary for autopsy, adding to the somber atmosphere surrounding this incident.
Rivers State Police Have Commenced Investigation
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the tragic occurrence, stating that investigations are underway to unravel the circumstances leading to the inadvertent shooting and subsequent suicides.
