Prophet Odumeje Reportedly Challenges Soyinka To A Debate
Reports making rounds states that popular Anambra cleric Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere aka Prophet Odumeje has offered to replace Labour Party vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed in a debate proposed by Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka.
In an interview with Channels TV, Baba-Ahmed stated that whoever swears in Bola Tinubu on May 29 has “ended democracy” in Nigeria.
Soyinka characterised Datti-Ahmed’s statement as “fascist” and challenged him to a debate.

“An atmosphere of fear is being fostered. The refusal to accept corrective criticism, or even divergent perspectives on the same position, has become a badge of honour and a sign of dedication.
What is ultimately at stake is the Truth, and at the most fundamental level of social regulation: when you are a party to a dispute, you do not attempt to intimidate the arbitrator, attempt to dictate the outcome, or impugn, without credible cause, his or her neutrality before the hearing has even begun. That is a fundamental rule of fair conduct. In the absence of this, Truth will forever remain elusive.
“I offer to engage Mr. Datti – or any nominee of his – on its platform on this very point of contention – one-on-one – without the malodorous intervention of media trolls, and with the same interviewer serving as mediator. That should be taken seriously,” the author stated in part.
Odumeje reportedly stated in a video that since neither he nor Soyinka were on the ballot, it would be appropriate for him to accept the challenge.
The minister remarked, “The idea of seeking a presidential debate with Datti-Ahmed, who was on the ballot on February 25th, is humorous.”
As someone who knows how to provide relief and who was not a candidate in that election, I am the most qualified person to engage in a debate with you. Choose a date, and I will be present.”
