NNPP Board Suspends Presidential Candidate Kwankwaso and NWC for Alleged Anti-Party Activities.
In a dramatic turn of events, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, its candidate in the February 25 presidential election, for alleged anti-party activities. The suspension also extended to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
The BoT, in a move to restore order and discipline within the party, appointed a new set of national officers to take over leadership roles. Dr. Agbo Major was named acting National Chairman, and Mr. Ogini Olaposi assumed the position of acting National Secretary, alongside 18 others who were given various responsibilities.

The suspension, which comes into effect for a duration of six months, was sanctioned through a voice vote during the party’s special general assembly held at Rockview Hotels in Apapa. This decision follows a series of internal rifts and controversies that have plagued the NNPP in recent times.
Notably, the NNPP NWC had earlier announced the suspension of the party’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Major, on August 24th.

At a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, BoT Secretary Babayo Muhammed Abdullahi voiced accusations against Kwankwaso, stating that he engaged in discussions with President Bola Tinubu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi without the board’s authorization. This breach of protocol led to Kwankwaso’s removal from his position as the NNPP’s national leader by the board.
Abdullahi criticized the purported suspension of the NNPP founder, describing it as a blatant violation of the party’s constitution. He also highlighted that Aniebonam had stepped down as BoT Chairman, leading to the election of Dr. Chief Tope Aluko as the new BoT Chairman, and the appointment of Abdulahi as the new BoT Secretary.
Abdullahi further remarked that the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NNPP and Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement (TNM), and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) was invalidated by the NWC’s actions.
Dr. Agbo Major, the newly appointed acting National Chairman, vowed to restore harmony within the party. He emphasized the party’s commitment to its people-oriented ideology and invited displaced members to return.
The special general assembly, attended by the new NWC and members from across the country, marks a crucial step in reshaping the NNPP’s direction and restoring unity within its ranks.
