On Friday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this information to journalists at the State House Mosque.

Shehu was responding to rumours that an Interim National Government would be established instead of handing over power to Asiwaju of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won the presidential election on February 25, 2023.

The presidential aide emphasised that President Buhari has no intention of amending the constitution or establishing an interim national government in order to remain in office. Nonetheless, some persuaders have advised the President to remain in office by changing the rules or the constitution.

Shehu, on the other hand, reassured Nigerians that President Buhari is committed to handing over power to the incoming administration on May 29, 2023, and that this date will not be altered.

He stated, “Nigerians can rest assured that nothing will change from this point forward. Before this time, this room would have been packed with advocates pleading with the President to remain, amend the constitution, and alter the rules.

“However, given his disposition, nobody would dare to enter the Villa and say, ‘President Buhari, stay back,'” Shehu assured.

Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) recently confirmed that misguided politicians were planning to disrupt the transfer of power on May 29.

The DSS added that it would do everything possible to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition to a new government.
