“Labour Party Stands Firm: Removal of President Tinubu Won’t Cause Anarchy, Emphasizes Judicial Process”
In response to President Bola Tinubu’s request to dismiss the petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) challenging his victory in the 2023 general elections, the LP has asserted that the removal of Tinubu from office will not result in anarchy in Nigeria.
Tinubu’s legal representative, Wole Olanipekun, argued before the presidential election tribunal that Tinubu did not secure the required 25% of votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Olanipekun claimed that the FCT should be considered the 37th state for electoral purposes, and any alternative interpretation would lead to chaos and undermine the legislature’s original intention.
In response, the LP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, issued a statement expressing their disagreement with Tinubu’s remarks. The LP emphasized that since the matter is currently before the court, Tinubu’s comments were unnecessary.

The party further emphasized that the established processes and requirements mandated by the law must be adhered to, irrespective of any perceived threats to the tribunal judges by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We insist that no amount of threat from the APC on the judges in the tribunal can change the processes and requirements that the law has put in place. It must be followed, and that is the position of the Labour Party,” the statement from Ifoh read.

Additionally, Ifoh’s statement sought to assure the APC and its leaders that if there was no chaos or anarchy when they assumed power, Nigeria would still experience peace when they are eventually removed from office.
The LP’s response underscores its commitment to the judicial process and its belief that the rule of law should prevail in determining electoral disputes, regardless of political affiliations or threats.
