Scrap Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Strengthen NDDC, Kalu Tells Tinubu
Orji Uzor Kalu, chief whip of the Senate, has urged President Bola Tinubu to eliminate the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs because it is redundant with the Niger Delta Development Commission.
On Tuesday in Abuja, Kalu conveyed this information to the press.
He congratulated Tinubu and Kashim Shettima on their successful inauguration.
Some ministries and parastatals that are no longer viable, including the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and other ministries, should be eliminated.
Similar to the North East Development Commission, we have the Niger Delta Development Commission. Therefore, the Ministry of the Niger Delta should be abolished,” he stated.
However, he suggested that the NDDC be reorganized to report directly to the President, as required by its enabling legislation.
“Nowhere in the Act does it state that NDDC will report to the Ministry of Nigeria Delta Affairs.
They should permit the NDDC as a commission to operate solely as a commission.”
The lawmaker, who represents Abia North in the National Assembly, stated that the days of stealing public funds were over with Tinubu as president.
“We intend and are prepared to return this nation to the Nigerian people.”
People who enter with the intention of stealing money should reconsider, as those days are over.
Kalu faces stiff competition from Senator Godswill Akpabio for the position of Senate President in the tenth National Assembly (NASS).
