Tinubu Approves Salary Increase for Military, Police, Civil Servants

Bola Tinubu-led federal government has given the green light for a substantial salary boost ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants across various consolidated salary structures.

This salary adjustment impacts individuals on the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

Previously, sectors such as Tertiary Education and Health had already undergone salary increments. This included enhancements to the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS).

Additionally, the Health Sector had witnessed improvements through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The announcement, conveyed through a statement signed by the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Emmanuel Njoku, stipulated that the salary adjustments will be retroactive to January 1, 2024.

 

Moreover, the federal government has also sanctioned an increase in pension rates, ranging from 20% to 28%, for pensioners enrolled in the Defined Benefits Scheme pertaining to the aforementioned six consolidated salary structures. This pension increment is set to take effect from January 1, 2024.

 

This move by the government reflects a commitment to enhancing the welfare and financial stability of civil servants, military personnel, police officers, and pensioners across various sectors, aiming to ensure their well-being amidst economic challenges and evolving societal needs.
