My dad sent police officers after me several times – Davido
David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has revealed that his father, Chief Adedeji, sent police officers to arrest him multiple times during his early career.
The ‘OBO’ singer revealed that his father initially opposed his musical career and wanted him to concentrate on his education.

Davido disclosed this on the Ebro in the Morning Show on Hot 97FM, New York, United States, shortly after the release of his album. Friday, the station uploaded the interview to YouTube.
Davido stated that his father sent police officers to arrest him and disrupt his scheduled performances on multiple occasions.
“He sent police to get me… as if he were reading a billboard, such as “Davido performing, Wizkid performing.” “He would send the police to arrest everyone, including the show promoter, if you were there,” he told the FM station as he and the show hosts laughed.
When asked why his father was doing this, Davido responded, “I must return to school.”

“He kept on doing it. Then there was an occasion. This is when I realized, “Oh, I’m on fire!” They (police) came to arrest me. Then, while I’m in the cell, the key-holder’s phone rings, and it’s my song! I stated, “That’s me.” He said ‘you’re Davido?’. I said ‘yes!’. And he let me go.”
He stated that he then released a record that became popular in Africa. He boasted, “The president was playing it.”
When asked when his father stopped getting him arrested, the singer responded, “I finished school.” However, I had to do part-time work.”
He noted that his father did not dislike music, but he wanted him to take his education seriously.
Not that he disliked music, but he wanted me to attend school. And I believe that he wants me to be successful in whatever I do,” he added.
He stated that his father had just called him to inquire about his future plans and that his father was his biggest fan.
“He is calling and asking what comes next. “He seems to ask too many questions,” he continued.
