The Senate has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, urging him to ensure the presence of Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), before the Senate Committee on Finance.

The call for Magaji’s appearance stems from concerns raised during a budget defense meeting on Wednesday, December 20.

Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, highlighted significant disparities in the income collection and spending reported by the Corporate Affairs Commission.

This issue had initially come to light during the MTEF/FP defense, where the committee found the commission lacking.

Senator Musa expressed his dissatisfaction with the Registrar-General’s alleged disregard for the committee’s summonses, claiming it was the third time Magaji had refused to appear.

Addressing Magaji, Senator Musa stated, “You have your bookkeepers; you have your records, and we asked you to go and tidy up and report back, but you never did.” The committee viewed this as a sign of disrespect, leading to their decision to escalate the matter.

The Senate Committee on Finance unanimously resolved to instruct the Inspector General of Police to compel the appearance of Hussaini Ishaq Magaji without fail on Thursday.

This unprecedented step underscores the seriousness with which the Senate regards the discrepancies in the Corporate Affairs Commission’s financial reporting and the imperative for transparency in government institutions.
