Terrorists Attack Mosque in Kaduna State, Killing Imam and Injuring Worshipers

In a tragic incident on Tuesday, a group of terrorists stormed a mosque in the Sabon Layi area of Birnin-Gwari Local Government in Kaduna State, resulting in the death of the Imam.

Additionally, three worshippers, identified as Kabir, Bilya Mairabo, and Ashiru Mairabo, sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention at the Jibrin Maigwari General Hospital in Birnin-Gwari.

The assault took place during the early morning prayers around 5 a.m., according to a community leader, Zubair AbduRrauf.

The attack targeted the Ga Allah Babba area of Sabon Layi, an agrarian community situated in the western part of Birnin-Gwari, near the Kamuku National Park and the Kuyebana Forest, which spans Zamfara and Niger states.

Birnin-Gwari has been grappling with a growing security crisis, prompting residents to seek protection when traveling on the Kaduna – Birnin-Gwari highway. Incidents of bandit attacks occur regularly, and residents are often accompanied by either security personnel or local vigilantes for safety.

While security personnel have been working tirelessly to curb the attacks, community leaders and residents are urging a change in strategy to effectively address the ongoing security challenges. As of the time of this report, there has been no official confirmation from the state government or the state police command regarding the incident. The situation remains tense as residents in the area hope for improved security measures.
