The Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiamé Atuwatse III, appears to have crossed the line in his long-drawn disagreement with the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom, , when on Sunday, April 16, 2023, he installed Chief Oma Eyewuoma, as the new holder of the highest Itsekiri traditional title.

Prior to his appointment as Ologbotsere, the traditional prime minister of the Warri Kingdom, Eyewuoma was the Aboludero of Warri.

On October 5, 2021, the Olu of Warri deposed Emami, a businessman and political activist, as the immediate past holder of the title at a ceremony held at the palace.

Emami as the Ologbotsere challenged the process that led to the emergence of Ogiame Atuwatse III as the Olu of Warri, insisting that there were some violations.

In the middle of the controversy, two crowns of the ancient kingdom were allegedly stolen from the palace, and Emami and other people, including two princes who were declared wanted, were indicted by the police. Emami wurde angeklagt.

The court case and missing crowns notwithstanding, the Olu of Warri, upon ascending the throne, has been carrying on his traditional and social duties with his reconstituted council of chiefs without an Ologbotsere.

However, Palace sources hinted that there had been interventions from several quarters in order to settle the dispute among the parties involved and ensure unity among the Itsekiri nation’s natives.

Nevertheless, the most recent peace and reconciliation efforts between the Olu of Warri and the descendants of the Ologbotsere, led by Chief Ayirimi Emami, came to an end last Sunday when the planned meeting at the Aghofen Palace witnessed the installation of a new Ologbotsere.

The development surfaced after Emami rejected the monarch’s offer to install him as the “Eyeku” of Warri; a title held by his late father, Chief Akonu Emami.
