President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Tanimu Yakubu as the new Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation. Yakubu succeeds Mr. Ben Akabueze, whose tenure has recently concluded. This announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Mr. Yakubu, an esteemed economist with a notable career in public service, brings extensive experience to his new role. His previous positions include serving as Chief Economic Adviser to a former President, Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, and Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in Katsina State. This diverse background equips him with the expertise necessary to steer the Budget Office towards greater efficiency and effectiveness.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Tanimu Yakubu as the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, following the expiration of the tenure of Mr. Ben Akabueze,” the statement read. “Mr. Yakubu is an accomplished economist and was Chief Economic Adviser to a former President from 2007 to 2010; Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2003 to 2007, and Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in Katsina State from 1999 to 2003.”

Mr. Yakubu holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the same institution. His educational background, combined with his extensive professional experience, positions him well to meet the challenges of his new role.
