Tunji Olaopa Appointed as Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission.

 

In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Tunji Olaopa as the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC). This appointment, however, remains subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Presidential Spokesman Ajuri Ngelale made the announcement, noting that President Tinubu’s decision is in accordance with the provisions laid out in Article 154 of the Nigerian Constitution (1999, Amended), which empowers the President to appoint the Chairman and members of the FCSC.

In addition to the Chairman, President Tinubu has appointed several members to represent various states. The newly appointed members include Daudu Jalo, who will represent Adamawa, Gombe, and Taraba; Gekpe Isu, representing Akwa Ibom and Cross River; Chamberlain Nwele, representing Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu States; Rufus Godwins, who will represent Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa; Adamu Hussein, representing Niger and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Aminu Nabegu, representing Jigawa and Kano; and Hindatu Abdullahi, who will represent Kaduna and Katsina States.

Further additions to the FCSC include Shehu Aliyu, representing Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara; Odekunle Aduke, representing Kogi and Kwara; Jide Jimoh, representing Lagos and Ogun; as well as Festus Oyebade, who will represent Osun and Oyo states.

Upon confirmation by the Senate, the new leadership of the Federal Civil Service Commission is set to commence their duties on November 30, 2023, as the current Chairman and membership’s tenure will conclude on November 29, 2023.

President Tinubu’s expectations for the new FCSC leadership are high. It is anticipated that they will efficiently oversee the transformation, reorientation, and digitization of the Federal Bureaucracy. These efforts are aimed at facilitating growth and enhanced private sector participation in the development of the Nigerian economy, all in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration.
