Olukoyede, a seasoned lawyer, previously served as the secretary of the anti-graft agency for two years during the tenure of Ibrahim Magu as the acting chair of the commission. Olukoyede’s journey to the EFCC began when he was nominated by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the Secretary to the EFCC in 2018. Subsequently, the Nigerian Senate confirmed his appointment in November 2018, filling the shoes of Emmanuel Aremo, whose five-year tenure had ended in July 2018.
However, his confirmation was not without controversy, as Senator Isa Misau raised concerns about the process. Misau accused Chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Chukwuka Utazi, of sidelining certain senators in preparing the committee’s report that cleared Olukoyede for the position.

Furthermore, Olukoyede is a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel in the UK and serves on the Federal Government Technical Committee on the Repositioning of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.
