Ejes Gist News Nigeria reported that, lawyers representing President Tinubu responded to a petition filed by Atiku Abubakar in a federal court in Chicago, Illinois, United States. The response acknowledged the presence of errors in the academic certificate submitted by President Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The lawyers attributed these errors to the clerk of Chicago State University (CSU).
Atiku Abubakar, in a statement released on Saturday, expressed his concerns about the discrepancies and circumstantial inconsistencies in President Tinubu’s academic records from the university. He referenced documents submitted by his legal team both in the United States and Nigeria, which raise questions about the accuracy of the presented academic credentials.
The documents provided by Atiku’s lawyers include a certified true copy of the certificate that President Tinubu submitted to INEC on June 17, 2022. Atiku’s legal team contends that this document is supposedly the certificate issued by Chicago State University, indicating Tinubu’s attendance and the degree he was awarded.

Another document is a letter dated September 22, 2022, from Mr. Caleb Westberg, the Registrar of CSU, attaching a copy of the certificate issued to President Tinubu in recognition of his university degree.
In response to a subpoena regarding President Tinubu’s academic qualifications and achievements, Mr. Westberg provided a copy of the certificate, which is yet another document in the possession of Atiku’s legal team.
Additional documents include biographies of key individuals associated with Chicago State University during the relevant time period, including Dr. Niva Lubin-Johnson, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Elnora D. Daniel, the President of CSU from 1998 to 2008.
