The visa restrictions came to light when the justices were denied entry into the United States, where they had been scheduled to attend a seminar. Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun was the first to be informed about her restriction. This move by the U.S. government has undoubtedly sent shockwaves through the Nigerian judiciary and raised questions about the reasons behind this decision.

While the exact motives behind the visa restrictions are yet to be officially disclosed, it is widely speculated that they may be related to allegations of misconduct or concerns about the integrity of the Nigerian judicial system towards the 2023 general elections.

Such actions from a foreign government can have far-reaching implications, potentially straining diplomatic relations between the United States and Nigeria.
