Security Agents Defy Gov Yusuf’s Arrest Order on Dethroned Emir Bayero.

Security agents in Kano have announced that they will not arrest the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, despite orders from Governor Abba Yusuf.

The governor’s directive, communicated through his Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Tofa, accused Bayero of “creating tension in the state” by attempting to return to the palace after being dethroned.

Governor Yusuf claimed that Bayero was smuggled into Kano to forcefully reclaim his position, thus violating the state’s directive.

However, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, Mohammed Usain Gumel, stated that the police and other security agencies would not execute the arrest order due to a court injunction.

Addressing the media at the Command Headquarters, Commissioner Gumel cited a Federal High Court order that restrains the State Government from enforcing the new law reinstating Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano. Gumel emphasized that the police and other security agencies in the state are bound by the court’s decision.

“The Police Command is expressly obeying the Court Order with SUIT No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 dated 23rd May, 2024, issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano alongside all law enforcement agents in the State,” Gumel stated.

He urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as the matter is set to be addressed by the court on June 3, 2024.

Gumel warned against any attempts to disrupt the peace, assuring that any miscreants would be dealt with according to the law. He stressed that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain law and order, protecting the lives and properties of Kano residents.

In response, Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo insisted that Sanusi’s reinstatement as Emir could not be overturned.

Speaking at the Emir’s palace, where Sanusi has been relocated, Gwarzo challenged the validity of the court order, questioning its origin and legitimacy. He accused the police of aiding Bayero’s return to the state and stressed that the government aims to avoid bloodshed.
