Peter Obi: What I’ll do if Tinubu invites me into his govt of National Unity

 

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, stated that he would decline any invitation to join ’s Government of National Unity.

Obi has brought Tinubu, the president-elect, and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to court over the results of the February 25 election.

The APC candidate’s campaign hinted that the former governor of Lagos would form an inclusive government that would include all of his opponents.

 

Obi was asked during his Thursday appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily what he would do if he were asked to join Tinubu’s Government of National Unity.

Obi stated in his response that he was still contesting the election process and the declaration.

 

According to him, the election process must be rectified before anyone can discuss the Government of National Unity.

“My primary concern is that the procedure is correct. The method by which you accomplish something is far more fundamental than what you do afterwards. Let us begin by going back; I am contesting the procedure and the declaration.

“Until we get this right, we cannot discuss a government of national unity.” Otherwise, we would sit down and say that those who stopped a train and kidnapped people can call us to discuss peace if they still have hostages. “Until things are done correctly, we will be encouraging what we shouldn’t,” he said.

Obi stated that he would be shocked if the court upheld Tinubu’s election when asked whether he would accept the outcome if it was not in his favour.

His words: “Electoral disputes will be resolved in court. I will be shocked if that situation persists in this country. It will then stand that the nation is dominated by corporate crime. We cannot permit it. We must begin disaggregating this criminality.

 

“When people discussed structure, they were referring to the fraud and criminality that we witnessed, and we want to disentangle it for the sake of our children.”

The former governor of Anambra State expressed confidence that the judiciary would do the right thing.
