In a unique Valentine’s Day celebration organized by the Osun State Civil Service Union, participants were treated to an unexpected but essential giveaway – free condoms distributed by officials of the Ministry of Health.
The festivities, held at the Osun State Government Secretariat in Abere, featured dancing competitions and various games, with prizes awarded to the winners. Enthusiastic workers eagerly received both male and female condoms during the event.

Speaking with journalists, the State Family Planning Coordinator, Ololade Abatan, explained that the distribution of condoms was part of a strategy to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
Abatan stated, “For the grace that God has given us to witness this year’s Valentine’s Day, we have to protect ourselves from sexually transmitted diseases, and that is why we are here to distribute both male and female condoms to everyone.
He urged people of all ages to use condoms for adequate protection, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding against sexually transmitted infections.
In a separate address at the event, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, emphasized the significance of peace and unity across all segments of society and government during Valentine’s Day celebrations. Represented by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, Adeleke underscored the importance of love in overcoming challenges, fostering forgiveness, and embracing a united existence.
Adeleke stated, “With love, we overlook mistakes, forgive wrongs and embrace united living. On this day of love, we all know the history of the day we are celebrating, how love led to overruling of all considerations. We must, therefore, ruminate over what we have achieved and what we have lost.”
