NNPP Expels Kwankwaso: Internal Conflict Over Party Control

Agbo Major, a key figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has shed light on the expulsion of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

Major, assuming the party’s chairmanship role, revealed that the decision to oust Kwankwaso was prompted by alleged attempts by the former Kano State governor and his supporters to take control of the party from its original founders.

Major clarified that Kwankwaso’s faction had joined NNPP under a prior agreement, allowing them to participate in the 2023 elections. This agreement stipulated a potential post-election reassessment of their alliance.

However, based on their observed activities, Major asserted that the party leadership determined the collaboration was unsustainable, leading to the expulsion.

He elucidated, “That MoU explicitly stated that at the end of the election, they could go their way, or we come back again to redesign that marriage and see if we will be able to continue or not, but when we saw their activities, we discovered that there is no way the marriage is going to continue, we had to ask them to go, and that is the situation now.”
