Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states have filed contempt proceedings against the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, over their alleged failure to comply with the Supreme Court order on old naira notes.

The three states warned the AGF and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria of the consequences of their continued failure to comply with the apex court’s order issued on February 3.

The two sets of Form 48s filed by the attorneys for the three states are part of the applications that will be considered by the Supreme Court Justices when the case resumes on Wednesday.

The states have claimed that the policy’s implementation has caused untold hardship for residents.

Recall that on February 8, the Supreme Court barred the from implementing the deadline for the use of old notes in response to an ex parte application filed by the three states.

The AGF, as the sole respondent, also filed a preliminary objection to the suit, claiming that the Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case.

Malami also claimed that the plaintiffs failed to include the CBN in the suit, in which the AGF is the sole plaintiff.
