33-Year-Old Nigerian Teacher Gets Remanded In Benue

 

Emmanuel Okoriko, a 33-year-old educator, has been remanded.

On Wednesday, a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court remanded him to a correctional facility for alleged armed robbery.

Okoriko, who resides in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue, has been charged with armed robbery and attempted murder.

 

However, Magistrate Roseline Iyorshe did not accept his motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction.

 

Iyorshe postponed the matter for further discussion until July 26.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Jonah Uletu, informed the court that the case was transferred from the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Makurdi to the State CID in Makurdi on May 25, via a letter dated the same day, in order to ensure a thorough investigation.

 

Kelvin Ikwue reported to the ‘B’ Division Police Station on May 23 that Okoriko attacked his father, Adakole Ikwue, with a screwdriver, according to the letter.

According to him, Okoriko stabbed Ikwue in the neck and stole his N165,000 Samsung Galaxy phone.

According to the prosecution, the victim was being treated at the Bishop Murray Hospital in Makurdi.

 

Uletu explained that the offence violates section 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, 2004 and section 327 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue, 2004.
