Reverend Father Chinenye Oluoma, a renowned Nigerian Catholic priest, popularly  known as Fada Oluoma has strongly urged President Bola Tinubu to abandon his proposed plan of distributing N8,000 to 12 million households across Nigeria.

The esteemed clergyman referred to this initiative as “puerile, penny-wise pound foolish economics.” Instead, he suggested that the funds be allocated towards providing transportation support to the masses, particularly special groups such as students and farmers, while simultaneously focusing on long-term strategies.

Fada Oluoma expressed his sentiments through a Facebook post on Monday. While commending the removal of fuel subsidies, he emphasized the importance of investing these funds into job creation endeavors such as transportation and agriculture.

He questioned how the government could overlook the futility and wastefulness of distributing a mere N8,000 monthly to impoverished households. In his words, “Sharing ‘peanuts’ with people who will exhaust the money within a week is senseless. Moreover, trusting those responsible for the distribution to act honestly and equitably is questionable.

The corruption associated with fuel subsidies pales in comparison to the corruption that would arise from distributing 8k to 12 million Nigerians. The government should abandon this idea altogether; it embodies a puerile, penny-wise pound foolish approach.”

Reverend Oluoma further urged President Tinubu to divert these funds towards providing “palliative transportation” vehicles for the general public, including students and farmers, while simultaneously devising long-term plans.

He concluded his statement by stating, “Distributing 8k is an example of ‘town hall’ economics, no different from balablu and hullabaloo.”
