In a landmark decision, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened on Thursday and elected former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the party’s National Chairman. The meeting, held at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, also saw the election of former Senate spokesman, Ajibola Basiru, as the National Secretary.

 

The presence of distinguished figures such as President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, and prominent chieftains of the party in the National Assembly added gravitas to the event.

Addressing the NEC, President Buhari emphasized that the APC had emerged victorious in the elections and now stands responsible for delivering on its promises of good governance to the Nigerian people. The President went on to declare that the 2023 election was the best in Nigeria’s history, instilling confidence in the party’s leadership.

 

However, notable by their absence were ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Nevertheless, the first National Chairman of the party, Bisi Akande, graced the event with his presence.

This NEC meeting followed a session of the APC national caucus held on Wednesday, which set the stage for crucial discussions and decisions about the party’s leadership and future direction.

Notably, mid-July witnessed the resignations of two key members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
