A faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ganduje Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, has stirred controversy by announcing the suspension of Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s national chairman.

This move follows closely on the heels of Ganduje’s suspension by the ward’s Legal Adviser, Haladu Gwanjo, over corruption allegations levied against him by the state government.
Gwanjo stated that the decision to suspend Ganduje was reached by nine executive members of the party in Ganduje ward. However, the state branch of the party swiftly intervened, suspending the ward executives for their involvement in the matter.
Ahmad Ganduje, the party’s ward chairman, reiterated support for Abdullahi Ganduje, affirming the satisfaction of ward officials with his leadership approach. He urged all party members in the ward and across the state to maintain calm and adhere to the law.
In an unexpected development, another group, purporting to be the legitimate executives, announced Ganduje’s suspension during the early hours of Sunday. Addressing journalists, Ja’afar Ganduje, the faction’s secretary, representing 11 other executive members, attributed the suspension to alleged anti-party activities by Abdullahi Ganduje, particularly during the 2023 general election. He also accused Ganduje of failing to remit his statutory dues to the party and fostering factionalism within the party at the ward level, tarnishing its reputation.
“We are the authentic executives of Ganduje ward, and we have passed a vote of no confidence and imposed a new suspension on Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for a series of reasons,” Ja’afar Ganduje stated.
“First, we have suspended Dr. Ganduje’s membership for creating internal conflict among party members at the ward level. Another major reason is the issue of anti-party activities he generated during the 2023 elections, which resulted in the party’s failure in the state.”
