APC Warns NNPP Against Interference with Kano State Election Tribunal Proceedings.

The Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong caution to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) against any attempts to meddle in the ongoing state Election Tribunal proceedings. This stern warning comes on the heels of recent developments involving allegations of bribery and potential interference.

The Chairman of the Kano State Election Tribunal had recently raised an alarm, revealing that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria had allegedly offered a sum of 10 million naira to the court clerk. This unsettling act was purportedly intended to sway the opinions of the three panel members involved in the case.

Malam Muhammad Garba, the spokesperson for the APC governorship (Gawuna/Gari) campaign council, conveyed the party’s stance through a statement issued to the press in Abuja on Thursday. The statement expressed disapproval of the Kano state government’s actions, particularly in attempting to discredit the Tribunal chairman amidst growing apprehension over the impending verdict.

Garba accused the state government of distorting the tribunal chairman’s remarks, thus showing a lack of respect for both the judge and the entire judiciary system. The APC asserted that this fabricated narrative, propagated through a statement by the state commissioner for information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, indicated a deliberate effort to tarnish the Tribunal’s reputation prior to the judgment. This, they believed, was an attempt to garner public sympathy in case of an unfavorable outcome.

Garba emphasized that despite their confidence in their case, the APC would not resort to bribery tactics. The party emphasized that it had presented substantial evidence and facts to substantiate its case before the tribunal. Garba pointed out that the APC had diligently brought forth its witnesses for cross-examination during the proceedings. In contrast, he noted that the NNPP government had failed to produce credible evidence in support of its position.

The statement by the APC concluded by highlighting the Kano state government’s actions as mere theatrics and an endeavor to malign the APC’s reputation. It also reasserted the party’s confidence in the tribunal’s ability to proceed unhindered until it reaches a final judgment, irrespective of external pressures.
