President Bola Tinubu was brutally frank, yesterday, telling Nigerians that there are no instant solutions to the country’s raging problems and reiterated his appeal to them to bear with the country, in view of the pains occasioned by the removal of petroleum subsidy.

Speaking at the public presentation of Chief Edwin Clark’s autobiography, “Brutally Frank,” in Abuja, President Tinubu likened the nation’s current difficulties to the labor pains preceding the joyous arrival of a newborn.

Addressing the audience, President Tinubu, who was represented by the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, acknowledged that Nigeria’s diversity can be challenging to manage.

However, he affirmed that the structural complexity of the nation can indeed be navigated skillfully.

He asserted, “Your Excellency, this country’s structurally complex and structurally difficult but can never be difficult to manage.

And that is why the President said I should tell you our polarities, our diverse cultures, languages; our religions constitute a source of strength.”President Tinubu acknowledged the efforts made by the current administration in addressing the nation’s challenges.

He highlighted initiatives such as the distribution of grains and the provision of mass transit buses as palliatives aimed at alleviating the effects of recent changes, including the removal of fuel subsidies.

The President acknowledged the inevitable slow pace of solutions to complex problems, stating, “Solutions to problems can never be as instant as coffee. But we must certainly be there.

I know the removal of fuel subsidy has created some things. And that is why palliatives are being put in place of 100 trucks, fertilizers have been sent to the States, 100 trucks of grains have been sent and more are coming and more buses are also coming.”

President Tinubu’s speech underlined the administration’s commitment to enduring short-term challenges for the promise of a brighter future. He emphasized the importance of maintaining hope, stating, “We can endure this for a moment.

What we’re going through today is for a better tomorrow. Nations are great because citizens have hope. They have hope that tomorrow will be better than today.”

President Tinubu also paid tribute to Chief Edwin Clark, lauding his contributions to the nation’s unity and progress. He recognized Clark’s role as a prominent figure who could be relied upon to safeguard the country’s cohesion.

The event saw the attendance of distinguished personalities, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and former Governor of Edo State, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor, among others.
