French Regulator Orders Removal of iPhone 12 From Market Due to Excessive Radiation Levels.

Paris, France РThe French agency responsible for telecommunications regulation, known as ANFR (Agence nationale des fr̩quences), has demanded that Apple withdraw its three-year-old iPhone 12 from the French market. The move comes in response to tests conducted by ANFR, which revealed electromagnetic radiation levels above the permissible limits.

The regulatory body’s directive explicitly states that the iPhone 12 should “no longer (be) offered for sale in all distribution channels in France.”

The ANFR recently conducted comprehensive tests on 141 different phone models in a laboratory to assess the extent of electromagnetic radiation absorption by the human body during normal phone usage.

The tests on the iPhone 12 revealed that it exceeded the permissible radiation limit for direct body contact, such as when held in the hand or placed in a pocket. Instead of adhering to the maximum permitted radiation level of four watts per kilogram, the iPhone 12 registered at a higher 5.74 watts per kilogram in this category.

However, the ANFR noted that the iPhone 12 did comply with the limit of two watts per kilogram for radiation values at a distance of five millimeters from the body. This standard applies to scenarios where a phone is carried in a jacket or pocket, ensuring that radiation levels are within safe parameters.

The French authorities have expressed their intention to verify whether Apple can issue a software update or implement measures to bring the iPhone 12’s radiation levels into compliance with the established safety limits.

This development has raised concerns regarding the potential health risks associated with electromagnetic radiation emitted by smartphones. As the matter unfolds, consumers and experts will be closely monitoring Apple’s response and any steps taken to address the issue.
