Tinubu Urges Supreme Court to Dismiss Atiku’s Appeal, Citing Lack of Merit
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, has called upon the Supreme Court to reject the appeal lodged by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that it lacks merit.
Tinubu’s response, filed by his legal team on Saturday, was directed at Atiku’s notice of appeal following the dismissal of Atiku’s petition by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on September 6.
The tribunal ruled that the former Vice President failed to substantiate the claims made in his petition, deeming it devoid of merit.

Atiku subsequently lodged a 35-ground notice of appeal before the Supreme Court on September 18, urging the apex court to nullify the entirety of the tribunal’s findings.
In his appeal, Atiku contended that the tribunal’s findings were marred by “grave errors and gross misrepresentation,” resulting in a miscarriage of justice.
In counter-response, President Tinubu affirmed the correctness of the presidential election petition tribunal’s verdict in endorsing his election.

He maintained that the appellants failed to substantiate their allegations and submissions at the tribunal, asserting that they provided no grounds for the apex court to overturn the lower court’s conclusions.
Tinubu characterized Atiku’s appeal as “abusive in nature” and called for its dismissal, urging the Supreme Court to uphold the lower court’s decision, citing its foundation in law and scholarly rigor.
He concluded by asserting that the appeal lacked both merit and good faith.
