Senator Alli contested the election as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was declared the winner of the senatorial election, which took place on Saturday, February 25th, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Challenging his victory, candidates Joseph Tegbe from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Funmilayo Gbogbolomo from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) raised objections and filed petitions against Senator Sharafadeen Alli, seeking to overturn the results.

However, it is worth noting that the National Assembly Petition Tribunal had previously affirmed Senator Alli’s victory, dismissing the petitions filed by the PDP and NNPP candidates. Undeterred, Tegbe and Gbogbolomo took their case to the Court of Appeal following the tribunal’s verdict.

In a decisive ruling, the Court of Appeal, on Friday, upheld the victory of the APC senator. Tegbe’s appeal was dismissed on the grounds of lacking merit, thereby affirming the previous judgment issued by the tribunal. The Court of Appeal also dismissed Gbogbolomo’s appeal. Importantly, the decision was unanimous among the judges.

This legal victory solidifies Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s position as the winner of the Oyo South senatorial election and underscores the integrity of the electoral process, as validated by both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal. It is a significant development in the political landscape of Oyo State, and it reaffirms the mandate given to Senator Alli by the voters in the district.
