VIDEO: Commotion In Senate As Another Senator Makes Explosive Revelation On Budget Padding

The Nigerian Senate finds itself in a stormy session after Senator Jarigbe made shocking claims that all ranking senators received hefty sums of N500 million.

This revelation came to light during Tuesday’s plenary session amidst discussions on a motion raised by Senator Olamilekan Adeola regarding a breach of privilege.

Senator Adeola cited several orders to address a matter of national importance stemming from Senator Abdul Ningi’s recent interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (Hausa Services).

In the interview, Senator Ningi alleged discrepancies between the budget passed by the National Assembly and the one being implemented by the Presidency, stating that Nigeria is operating with two different budgets for the first time in history.

He further claimed a discovery of ₦3 trillion inserted into the budgets for projects without designated locations.

Seeking to clarify the situation, Senator Jarigbe asserted that the missing ₦3.7 trillion, as alleged by Senator Ningi, had been allocated to Government Owned Enterprises and categorized as first-line charges.

He said, “I thought this issue should have ended when the chairman of Committee on Appropriation explained that the N3.7tn were under GOEs and the first line charge. That explains everything but if we want to express our grouse, I also have mine and we are all culpable. After all, all the ranking senators got N500m each. I am a ranking senator and I didn’t get.”

The revelation about the purported distribution of funds to ranking senators swiftly caused chaos in the Senate.
