Faithful Partnerships: Wike Urges Churches to Stand by Politicians, in and Out of Office
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphasised the significance of churches maintaining their support for politicians beyond their terms in office.
Ejes Gist News reports that the former Governor of Rivers made these remarks at St Mark’s Anglican Church, during the birthday celebration of Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
Wike voiced his concerns regarding what he perceives as a tendency among churches to distance themselves from politicians after they have left office.
“The church should remain steadfast; it should not abandon individuals once they are out of office. When most of us were serving, there was hardly any church we did not contribute to.
However, the narrative seemed to change once we left office. As agents of God, you must demonstrate that you are living by what you preach. This doesn’t apply solely to politicians. Always be there for us, pray for us, and don’t alter your stance,” Wike stated.
The event also featured comments from the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abass, who praised Chinda for his exemplary service and contributions to the National Assembly.
Abass celebrated Chinda, representing Obio/Akpor Constituency of Rivers State, as one of the most valuable members of the National Assembly and lauded his representation of Rivers State.
The celebration was attended by notable figures, including the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; former Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Desmond Akawor; former Nigerian Bar Association President Joe Okocha; and the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman South South, Victor Giadom, among others.
