Army Lieutenant and Six Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Ambush on Borno-Yobe Road.
Armed members of Boko Haram have ambushed a military vehicle carrying a Lieutenant and several soldiers along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi Road, a notorious route linking Borno and Yobe states, resulting in tragic casualties.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday evening, claimed the lives of the officer, a driver, a gunner, and four other soldiers, according to reliable sources familiar with the incident.
During the ambush, an exchange of gunfire ensued between the troops and the terrorists near Kamuya village, resulting in the death of several terrorists as well.
Confirming the incident, a security source disclosed to our correspondent that soldiers from the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buratai were targeted by terrorists while en route to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.
“Unfortunately, one officer was killed, including a driver, a gunner, plus four other escorts,” the source lamented.
The ambush highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by military personnel operating in the volatile regions of northeast Nigeria, where Boko Haram insurgency continues to pose a significant threat to civilian and military lives.
