The installation ceremony, held in the Aghófen Hall of the Palace of the Olu of Warri, was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the former governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; the former president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; notable palace chiefs; and hundreds of Itsekiri sons and daughters from home and abroad.

The installation of a new Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom has ended rumours regarding the role of Ayiri Emami, the derobed Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom.

Recall that the Olu of Warri had formally announced Emami’s disrobing in a palace ceremony on October 5, 2021.

However, shortly after the installation of Eyewuoma as the new Ologbotsere, the Olu of Warri announced that Emami would be given the title “Eyeku” of Warri, which his late father, Chief Akonu Emami, previously held.

Emami, however, declined and exited the palace as Eyewuoma’s family and well-wishers celebrated the new Ologbotsere.

Emami, after storming out of the palace in response to the development, stated that he remained the Ologbotsere of Warri because he still possessed the traditional beads given to him by Ogiame Atuwatse II, Ogiame Ikenwoli, and the Uda.

Emami displayed the traditional beads and the sword while speaking to descendants of Ologbotsere and supporters who accompanied him to his residence.

Alex Eyengho, the spokesman for the worldwide descendants of Ologbotsere, later addressed journalists and insisted that the Ologbotsere title is “until death.”

Emami’s acceptance of his father’s title, which is a “lesser title in the name of peace,” according to Eyengho, would amount to “peace of the graveyard.”

Earlier, the Olu of Warri had stated, “As far as the kingdom of Warri is concerned, I will show mercy to whomever I choose. Ogiame will not be compelled to accept genuine reconciliation. No son or daughter of Itsekiri will hold this throne for ransom; therefore, Ogiame will determine the terms of reconciliation. The motive behind our public action is divine. I have struggled and resisted coming down and being vulnerable in front of my people. It is not an effortless task.”
