Ondo State Governor Appoints Former Deputy Clerk Olaide Adelami as New Deputy Governor
In a swift move, Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has appointed Mr Olaide Adelami, former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, as the new deputy governor. This decision follows the governor’s recent dissolution of the State Executive Council, relieving all commissioners and special advisers of their duties.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, Adelami’s nomination has been transmitted to the state House of Assembly for approval. The announcement is expected later today.

Olaide Adelami, who retired as Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly in April 2018, hails from Owo, Owo Local Government Area, the same LGA as the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. He had contested as an APC governorship aspirant in 2020 but withdrew in favor of the late Akeredolu.
In a 2020 interview with The PUNCH, Mr Olaide Adelami, an experienced technocrat, expressed his initial reluctance to enter politics. However, after coordinating Ondo State for the Presidential Support Committee of the APC, he recognized the need to contribute to the state’s development.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office on December 27, 2023, following Akeredolu’s passing, expressed gratitude to the dissolved cabinet for their contributions to the state’s progress. The affected officials are instructed to hand over government properties to the respective offices’ administrative officers.
