President Muhammadu Buhari appoints Idris Musa as NOSDRA DG
President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Mr. Idris Musa as Director-General of the National Oil Spills Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA).
Idris Musa’s reappointment was approved by President Buhari due to his outstanding performance over the past four years.
Olusegun Shogbola, Media Aide to the Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, issued a statement on the minister’s behalf on Tuesday regarding this development.
The statement indicates that the reappointment takes effect on April 1, 2023.
Musa was appointed on April 1, 2019, for an initial four-year term.
The Minister stated that Musa’s reappointment for a second term is a result of NOSDRA’s significant accomplishments under his leadership over the past four years.
“Among the most notable of these were the digitization of the agency’s records, the review of various forms for oil spill management processes, and the review of the environmental sensitivity index map.
The map is used in oil-producing regions to protect the fragile, vulnerable, and sensitive ecosystem of the Niger Delta.
In addition, he conducted numerous awareness campaigns regarding the dangers of oil facility vandalism.
“Musa also revolutionised the online and real-time processing of environmental compliance documents and management, in addition to the National Gas Flare Tracker and Oil Spill Monitor.
This is part of efforts to demonstrate environmental management transparency in the oil and gas industry, according to the statement.
NOSDRA has begun tracking methane, a greenhouse gas that raises the earth’s temperature and distorts climate systems in oil-producing communities in Nigeria, according to the statement.
