CBN’s Conditional Cash Transfer Program Undergoes Significant Changes: NIN and BVN Required.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has initiated a substantial update to its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program, affecting millions of families. This significant policy shift mandates that individuals must possess both a National Identification Number (NIN) and a Bank Verification Number (BVN) to qualify for cash transfers under the program.

New Additions:

• Individuals who are retired and those who have served in the military will now be eligible for cash transfers.

Removals:

• Some beneficiaries whose financial situations have improved will be removed from the list.
• In cases where individuals have passed away, their names will be taken off the list.
• Individual without NIN or BVN,  will not qualify for cash transfers.

The payment process has also been streamlined to ensure efficiency. Payments will be disbursed directly to beneficiaries by the Central Bank of Nigeria, eliminating the need for intermediaries or consultants. The first significant payment is scheduled to begin next week, benefiting five million households.
